3 Incredibly Helpful Tips for Traveling with Kids

Tips for Traveling with Kids

Traveling with kids– even just reading the phrase can make experienced parents shudder. Here are a few tips to help on your next trip. When it comes to traveling with children, everything that can go wrong will go wrong. Crayons will end up melted in the car seat, snacks will be crushed, and feelings will be hurt. Even if you make a list and check it twice, the odds are that you will forget something — and it will probably end up being one of the most important things. Luckily, even if there might not be a magical secret to making traveling with children stress-free, there are a number of things you can do to improve your overall trip and make it easier and more fun for the whole family.Man with child walking

Choose Your Start Time Wisely

There are two fields of thought about when the best time to travel with your children is. One group of parents believe that traveling at night is the best way to go. After all, your children should be sleeping, and you’ll be able to log many a mile before they make a peep. You won’t have to worry about meals or potty breaks or screaming matches. However, another group of parents suggests traveling early in the morning instead. Everyone should be well rested and ready to go. Plus, you’ll have the whole day ahead and you can take breaks as necessary.

Still, both fields of thought have their downsides. While traveling at night might seem like a great idea, what are you going to do if the kids don’t go back to sleep? You could end up with a car full of screaming kids at 2 am. Early morning travel might seem like the way to go. But what if everyone has the nervous butterflies the night before and doesn’t sleep well? Then you’re stuck with grumpy children all day. What start time works best for your family depends on your family.

Dad walk on beach w daughterTake Plenty of Food

The last thing you need is for your children to be hungry while you’re traveling. You might think that there will be plenty of gas stations on the route for snacks on the way, but the second you enter “no man’s land” without a gas station in sight, your children will suddenly become hungry and demand food right then and there. So, plan ahead and bring way more food than you think you should. Make sure the food is well-balanced too. You don’t want to give your children a sugar rush when they have three more hours of sitting in the car.

You might even want to plan for a meal in the car, especially if your children are terribly picky and probably wouldn’t eat much at a restaurant anyway. Peanut butter and jelly, hummus, wraps, sandwiches, and protein boxes (like these from Number 2 Pencil) make great healthy options for meals-on-the-go. Remember, protein is essential for keeping children full while they’re on a road trip, so be sure to include lots of protein in your meals and snacks.

Dress Appropriately

If you’re going to be in the car all day, the odds are that the temperature is going to change quite a bit, especially if you are traveling to the north or south. While it might be colder in the morning, it might very well be blisteringly hot by the time you stop for lunch. This can make choosing appropriate clothing difficult. You can’t dress your children in cool clothes because the morning might be chilly, but you can’t dress them in warm clothes either. Instead, opt to dress them in plenty of layers so that you can shed and put them back on as necessary. This also allows each child to control their temperature so they aren’t fighting over the car’s AC controls. Does your trip require a flight? tips on flying check this page.

Traveling with children can be stressful. While these tips might not make your journey 100 percent stress-free, they hopefully provided you with enough information to make your trip at least a little bit less stressful.

Planning Your Own Trip is Time-Consuming

Quote about wasted time

Planning on Your Own Trip Is Time-Consuming

From weddings to family reunions to just needing to a weekend getaway with a group of friends, there’s much to look forward to when you’re planning a trip. But planning on your own can be time-consuming, especially if you’re a busy professional. Here’s why:

Trip Planning Can Be Overwhelming

Traveling in a large group sounds like a great idea at first but size matters. Once you start making arrangement you notice prices change, then each person is paying more or worse yet cannot get on the same flight! Trip planning gets overwhelming fast! Doing a search on Google for “Caribbean Vacation” or “Jamaica vacation packages” can return millions of results (about 238,000,000). Sifting through results is also time-consuming, and DIY trip planning sites don’t make planning easier. You’re limited to booking a one or two rooms at a time with up to just eight guests with one form of payment. Searching for Vacation

You’ll also have to poll friends or family for available vacation dates, keep track of payments, and accommodate for different ages, preferences, and budgets. This complex process gets overwhelming when traveling internationally or with more individuals. While you limit your group’s size, cutting people out of the trip can potentially hurt feelings. Instead, explore enlisting assistance of a travel agency to reduce trip planning complexity.

You Waste Lots of Time Searching for Budget Trips

Of course nearly every trip considers cost, but don’t overlook your time. If you’re searching multiple websites for the best time to travel to Mexico or Jamaica in hopes of recreating a luxury-style vacation on a discount, you might just be wasting valuable time. In fact, a 2014 poll indicated that approximately 39 percent of Americans spent at least five or more hours planning trips instead of their retirements. Moreover, piecing together your trip to Quote about wasted timecreate a vacation that mirrors luxury Caribbean travel and life can end up costing more when you miss the value of experience.  You need to make sure all the T’s are crossed. However, you can leverage exclusive travel agency bundled deals with a professional travel advisor and even set up payment plans to save you time and money on credit card interest.

You Don’t Have to Plan on Your Own

When you’re busy at work, or have a family to take care of, planning an epic vacation isn’t easy. Using a DIY trip planning site doesn’t make you a trip planning guru, either. Having access to these sites doesn’t mean you have access to exclusive vacation planning information.  Have you heard the saying? ” You don’t know, what you don’t know!” Vacation planning doesn’t need to be a solo job. You can use trained and friendly people who are knowledgeable and can do the trip planning for you. Whether you’re planning a wedding getaway or searching for all-inclusive adult-only vacations for groups, consider enlisting some help. Claim your time back and take the complexity out of vacation planning. Get assistance planning your trip contact a professional luxury travel agency.

Mexico Travel Warning

Since the last Mexico travel update from the State Department, clients have been emailing and calling  asking about the safety of traveling to Mexico. I know you have seen the sensationalized headlines. One client called and told me She heard there was a “travel ban “- that no one was allowed to go to Mexico. Obviously something was lost in this translation.

I’m not going to tell you; you should or shouldn’t go to Mexico, you have to make that decision for yourself. Fear of the unknown is understandable. You should base your choice on facts vs the media’s “click bait” headlines. I travel to Mexico once or twice a year myself, my 2nd trip is coming up in December. In April my daughter and I went to Mexico alone. I know you’re wondering how did we ever make it back alive? Because the people and the spirit of Mexico overpower the evil, the negative, the sensationalized! I would never send any of my clients somewhere I would not travel myself.  Your safety is always a concern.

UPDATE Nov. 2018: A well-known travel writer, Mark Murphy takes this 12-minute Video in and around Cancun, Riviera Maya and Cozumel part of Mexico.  Decide for your self about safety, he interviews tourists, they may be a common theme you pick up on.

Watch Video Here

Your best source of information is not the Media’s version of doom and gloom about the Vacation or Honeymoon you have planned to Mexico.

Facts about Mexico Travel Warning:

  • There is no travel ban to Mexico – Google it, you will come up with all sorts of stories about the President and Muslim countries but nothing about vacations to Mexico.
  • According to the State Department spokesperson – “This was a routine update to the previous travel warning issued on Dec. 8, 2016,” State Department spokesperson Pooja Jhunjhunwala told Conde Nast Traveler. “The (State Department) continues to warn U.S. citizens about the risk of traveling to parts of Mexico”
  • The State Department issued a worldwide travel caution that has been around since the 9-11 attacks in 2001. –  It states- “As terrorist attacks, political upheaval, and violence often take place without any warning, U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness when traveling. “

Crime rates and facts in the United States:

  • United States has had 150 mass shootings this year.
  • Orlando night club shooting, where 49 people lost their lives, is the same city where Disney World is located.
  • In 2015 Washington DC had a population of 670,377 with 162 murders. State of Florida (home of Disney and Universal) population of 20,244,914 has a whopping 1,041 murders.
  • In our own back yard Kansas City. There have been 123 homicides this year (2017). Seven of them happened over July 4th weekend. Did you hear about them? Are you going to postpone your trip to see the Royals or Chiefs?
  • Fact Wichita, KS has a higher murder rate than the US national average– Shocking right?!Graph of murder rate

Facts for the State of Quintana Roo-

Vacation spots of Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum are located here. This area was added in the recent travel warning update.

  • State Population- 1.5 Million
  • Hosts 10 Million Visitors per year (Bloomberg) –  This is more than the whole population of the State.
  • Recorded 169 homicides so far in the State. Yes, this is an increase over last year.
  • Tourism to Mexico is UP 10 percent from last year and another 10 percent from the year prior.  Why is tourism going up so much, if it is so dangerous?
  • Here is a poll from a Dive shop in Cozumel. 1,666 persons – 93 percent felt safe or really safe.

Poll of felling safe

Let’s talk safety by numbers:

Example: Quintana Roo (an entire STATE about the size of Texas) Population 1.5 Million, has reported 169 homicides in 2017, About .011 percent one in 8,875

Example: Orlando, Florida home to Disney World (a single city) Population 277,000 reported 128 homicides in 2017, about .046 percent or 1 in every 2,164  There are deaths In Disney world every year- hardly ever reported in Media.

Example: Kansas City Population 481,420 reported 123 homicides in 2017, about .018 or 1 in 3,913

What about other countries? Are they warning their citizens about Mexico?

Here is what the British Government says about travel to the Bahamas.    Quote – “There have been incidents of violent crime including robbery, which is often armed and sometimes fatal, in residential and tourist areas of New Providence, Grand Bahama and Freeport. The number of break-ins and robbery incidents reported to the British High Commission has increased. There are police patrols in the main tourist areas.

Be vigilant at all times and don’t walk alone away from the main hotels, tourist areas, beaches and downtown Nassau, particularly after dark.”  Sounds bad right?!? I bet the Brits don’t ever travel to Bahama’s for holiday. Yet another line says, “Almost 28,000 British nationals visited the Bahamas in 2015. Most visits are trouble-free.”

Mexico (from the United Kingdom)

Quote — “There is a low threat from terrorism” … “In certain parts of Mexico, you should take particular care to avoid being caught up in drug related violence between criminal groups.”  ” Over 513,800 British nationals visited Mexico in 2016. Most visits are trouble-free.”

From United Kingdom about traveling to the USA  :  “There is a general threat from terrorism. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners. You should monitor media reports and remain vigilant at all times.”

Hmmm? Sounds like the British Government is telling people traveling the USA and Bahama’s is generally LESS safe than Mexico!?

The real story — be aware of your surroundings in any location even at home! Trust your gut. In my opinion, there is nothing out of the ordinary to be afraid of traveling in Mexico.  However, I am terrified of spiders and I hear there is nothing to fear from most spiders.

I would love to help you plan your next vacation or honeymoon to Mexico or any place your heart desires. Contact us

Couples Resorts Jamaica

People know I love Couples Resorts in Jamaica.

Couples Resorts are adults only and all inclusive located in four different locations on the Island of Jamaica! Friendly staff and comfortable rooms, not over the top, what’s not to love? Are you still wondering if this could be the right place for your romantic anniversary or honeymoon? Here’s what sets these resorts apart.

  •  All king beds. Yes, every room in every one of these Jamaican resorts offer king beds. Why is this important to you? There is NO way you’ll end up with 2 double beds by mistake. This also means the resort is usually all other guests who are also couples. Over all, this makes the atmosphere more romantic! Each property is very small and almost boutique in style. The staff will take time to get to know you and many times will remember what you drink the next day when you swim up to the bar. There is nightly entertainment at each property, every night will have a different show or theme night.

Couples Swept Away

The most desirable beach in all of the Caribbean is were you will find Couples Swept Away. The middle of 7 miles beach the beach is at it’s widest point in this area. There are multiple buildings sprinkled in the trees and pathways, buildings are no taller than a palm tree. The tree frogs sing in the evening and create a wonderful romantic experience. When your number one demand is perfection in the quality of beach, this could be the place you are looking for.

Couples Negril –

Located on Bloody Bay and a short 90 minutes from the Montego Bay airport. I love this properties activity staff! There was always something fun going on. Donovan performed in the night club several times a week, he was a hit with every guest.

Couples San Souci –

Located just outside Ocho Rios, a cliff side oasis with plenty of private nooks. This property can offer one bedroom beachfront suites at very affordable prices! Should take you about 2 hours from either Montego Bay airport or slightly less from Kingston. The new Kingston highway is beautiful slice into the country side.

Couples Tower Isle

A bit farther down the road from San Souci you will find Tower Isle. In the 1950’s the rich and famous played here. Your beach here is much smaller and super quiet. There are no vendors or hundreds of other people from other properties walking on your beach. The private island is accessible by boat, and protects the shore line.  Because of the compact nature of this resort, you are never very far from a pool or some food.

The newest addition for a stay are the Spa Villas– staying in one of these 8 private Villas include unlimited spa treatments. Each Villa has it’s own swimming pool and access to the all inclusive amenities found on the resort.

Would you like more information about any of the Couples resorts? Please contact Trish.  She has been to each of these resorts multiple times!

Bridal Show or Expo Tips and Tricks

Exciting, you are planning your wedding! What’s your next step? Going to a local Bridal show or expo of course!

Bridal show, sometimes called wedding show, or bridal fairs are a great way to meet many of the businesses and people you need to pull off the perfect day.

Here’s a few tips to get the most enjoyment out of your next bridal show or bridal expo when planning your wedding.

#1 – Wear good shoes- There is usually a lot of walking involved. You might be there for an hour or on larger shows you might be there all day? Depending on your planning and what you have left to take care of.

#2 – Bring a bag- Bridal shows are full of vendors who want you to remember them, most of the time this means bringing home business cards, promotional pens, pricing flyers, and other various items. Many times the organizer will give away bags, sometimes they run out, there may be bags sacks not the right size for every thing, or not very good quality when they get heavy.

#3 – Have a plan! Every couple is in different planning stages for their wedding. Know what you are
looking to find can help save you time. Do you need a cake (many have samples), honeymoon, photographer, reception decor or still looking for a dress? Most likely there will be more than one of each category.  They will be spread out and not usually next to each other, another reason for those comfortable walking shoes!Bridal show brain mem

#4- Pre printed labels – Many times there are drawings for prizes. You can sign up for newsletters or extra information from the wedding businesses. Pre printed labels can save you from hand writing dozens of times. Labels get accurate information to the wedding service provider; without the trouble of deciphering hand writing. Have your labels include:

#5- Keep an eye out for professional vendors

Anyone who pays the organizer’s fee to be in the wedding show or expo can be there. This does not mean they are professional or will do a great job for your wedding. Do the vendors or businesses have:

  • Professional looking signage
  • Professional looking business cards
  • Takes time to talk to you answer a few basic questions
  • Are they dressed to impress

If these businesses don’t impress you at the one time they should! Imagine what kind of care they are going to take when providing the service you need for your wedding? Check them out as you would any one you are going to hire for your wedding.

E Brochures for Vacation and Honeymoon Travel

Top Five Honeymoon Travel Tips.

TOP FIVE Honeymoon TRAVEL TIPS: (Good for regular vacations too)

Ah yes grasshopper, I have learned the hard way. A few tips from a pro about honeymoon travel, even the best laid plans can fail, to no fault of your own.

1) Always put some of each other’s clothes in the other’s checked bag as a precaution.

Never pack valuables such as jewelry and cameras. Pack a carry-on bag with valuables, prescriptions, toiletries, swimwear, travel documents, sunglasses and a change of clothes just in case you have to wait for your room or your luggage gets lost.

2) Don’t let $100 or $200 stop you from doing something you will always remember.

A romantic dinner at a fancy restaurant with spectacular views. A catamaran sailing on the open seas. Scuba diving an old ship wreck or swimming with Dolphins. This is your honeymoon! Every trip after this is just a vacation. You may never be able to do this again.Snuba Mexico underwater

3) If you can avoid it.

Don’t book your flight for EARLY the next morning after the wedding, particularly if you’re having a large evening reception. Once you finally get to sleep it may be hard to wake up at 4:30 a.m. for that early morning flight; or worse you may not even hear the alarm! Not a good start to your honeymoon.

4) Read your itinerary.

No matter where you purchase your trip from, proof read your invoice, and travel documents, the fine print. Most times small things can be corrected before larger issues arise. Travel dates of JUN and JUL are only 1 letter different or a simple click on the wrong month in a calendar.

5) Perfect honeymoons don’t just happen.

Perfect honeymoons have to be carefully planned. The more you do your honeymoon homework, the more romantic – and the more fun – your honeymoon will be. Find a good travel expert,  the services of an experienced travel agent can save you hundreds of hours and make everything flow. You will have oodles of other things having to do with your wedding to keep you busy. Let a travel expert worry about your honeymoon travel plans.

How much is a good honeymoon budget.

How much to allow for your honeymoon budget.

Honeymoon couples often start their search with a long list of must haves… Only to find what they really want and how much these things cost don’t always fit in their honeymoon budget.  Unless you’re well off, it’s almost impossible to check everything off a wish list. So what’s a couple to do?  Compromise on your budget….. on your honeymoon?   No worries, with a few adjustments you can travel without breaking the bank.

Think about these common concessions and what they mean to your dream honeymoon and you overall wedding budget. What would you want to keep no matter what the cost? What can you live without?

Compromise # 1: Beach Quality

Everyone dreams of white powdery sand through their toes, the problem, truly white powdery sand is a little harder to find than you might imagine. Slightly less desired beach can save hundreds. No I’m not talking a cliff, maybe it’s more of tan in color or has a few rocks or is only a football field long versus miles. If you come from the Midwest it’s still a better beach than you’ve seen before.

Compromise #2: Amenities

Services such as; unlimited al a carte gourmet dining, romantic Jacuzzi tub for 2 in your room, that suite located beachfront with the waves at your door, an exclusive private outdoor shower or 24 hour room service are great ways to make your trip special. These items also have a cost. Are you able to do without 24 hour room service? After all you can always get food yourself. That Jacuzzi for 2 may be hard to find in some modest budget resorts. Beachfront is always more than a garden view.

Compromise # 3: location, location, location

White sand beach

7 miles of powery beach

Location is important in home buying and it’s true for your honeymoon vacation as well. Destinations that are closer to home many times have less expensive flights. These destinations can offer you a better value. You may have your heart set on that overwater bungalow in beautiful Bora Bora. Once you find out the price tag for the average airline ticket is roughly $1600 a piece, you might change your mind quickly.

Compromise # 4: departure day

Weddings tend to be on Friday or Saturday and especially the months of June and July. Most couples want to travel for their honeymoon immediately after their ceremony. Changing this by just a couple of days can help you find better airfare prices. There’s actually no written rule that says you need to leave immediately after your wedding. Bonus, most resorts will still apply honeymoon amenities several months after the wedding within reason. Having a wedding over a major holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas, take your honeymoon after the holidays are over and demand returns to normal.

No matter what your honeymoon budget, you can still have a fantastic trip; after all you’ll be with the love of your life. Knowing a few ways to adjust your wish list can help greatly.  Want to avoid having to adjust your wish list? Our next post will help you avoid having to compromise.
